Yoni Assia is the co-founder and the current CEO of eToro. He was born on March 1, 1981 in Savyon, Israel to David Assia and Naomi Assia. His father, David Assia, was the founder of Magic Software Enterprises while his mother, Naomi Assia, owns a legal firm that specializes in copyright laws.
Assia graduated from Makif Yehud High School in 1999. In the same year, he later attended Microsoft and got his certificate as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD).
He also attended the Open University of Israel in 2003 and graduated Cum Laude in 2005 with a BA degree in Management and Computer Science.
He continued his studies in 2005 at the Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya and graduated Cum Laude in 2007 with an MA degree in Computer Science.
Assia started his career in 2000 while serving the military as a programmer under the technology unit of the IDF Military Intelligence Directorate.
While studying for his BA degree in 2003, he co-founded and became the Development Manager of WiTech Communications and CDRide, an on-ride video technology company.
CDRide's innovative dynamic thrill-ride video system works by video-recording individuals while they are riding roller-coasters and the clips are sent wirelessly so it can be immediately edited and made available for the clients. The same technology has been utilized by various TV stations for the purpose achieving high quality footages of extreme sports.
After the launch of CDRide, the start-up company was able to win a number of contracts with big-time companies like Paramount.
At the age of 25 and together with his brother Ronen Assia, and David Ring, they founded eToro in 2007 and the company was originally called ”RetailFX”. Initially, the platform that they offer only allows users to trade Forex and CFDs until it introduced the OpenBook, a social investment platform and its CopyTrade feature in 2010.
Since 2013, Assia has also held the position as Board Member of Meitav Dash, an Israeli investment management firm that provides a broad range of professional services.
On January 23, 2020, Assia together with tech entrepreneur and TRON CEO Justin Sun attended a 3-hour dinner with American investor and business tycoon Warren Buffett at the Happy Hollow Club in his hometown in Omaha, Nebraska.
Sun won the annual charity auction luncheon after bidding a $4.57 million donation to the auction but the supposed-to-be event in San Francisco was postponed at a later date.
The dinner was also attended by other top crypto personalities including Charlie Lee (founded of Litecoin Foundation), Chris Lee (CFO of Huobi), and Helen Hai (Head of Binance Charity Foundation and UNIDO Goodwill Ambassador).
For Assia who started investing at an early age and has been a supporter of capital markets, his discussion with Buffett about investing created one clear image for him:
Investing can be simpler when you invest in businesses you understand and believe in. If you follow the rules of value investing over a long period of time, you can succeed as an investor.
Assia is a member of the YPO (formerly Young Presidents' Organization), a global leadership community of chief executives which currently has around 29,000 members in over 130 countries.
He is also included in the Fintech 40 List by Financial News. This is a list of the fintech industry’s top 40 individuals in Europe which has been decided upon by the publications editors.

Assia has also been added on Fortune business magazine's 40 Under 40, which is a list of influential businesspeople under the Finance category. To quote Fortune:
A generation has learned to buy shares of stock via mobile phones, and Israeli-born Assia is a big reason why. The company he cofounded, eToro, offers one of the world’s most popular stock-buying apps with more than 13 million users in over 100 countries.
Yoni is married to Mor Assia, the Founding Partner and Co-CEO of iAngels which is an angel investing equity crowdfunding platform. They have four children: Adam, Anne, Ari, and Alex.
