History of Amazon

Amazon was founded in July 1994 by Jeff Bezos in the "regret minimization framework," which characterized his efforts to avoid any regrets for not engaging earlier in the Internet business boom at that time. Bezos moved to Seattle from his job as vice-president of Wall Street firm D. E. Shaw & Co. in 1994. He started developing a business plan for what would become Amazon.com.

Bezos wanted books to be available to everyone, regardless of their location. He wanted Amazon to be the convenient to-go place for people to purchase books. As a result, Amazon became one of the first online bookstores in July 1995, where it produced a list of 20 things that may sell online after reading a forecast on the future of the Internet that predicted yearly Web commerce growth of 2,300 percent. He reduced the list down to the five most profitable products: compact discs, computer hardware, computer software, films, and books, among others. Due to the tremendous global demand for literature, low book prices, and many titles available in print, Bezos finally decided that his new company would sell books online. Amazon started in Bezos' garage in Bellevue, Washington.

What is Amazon's Stock Symbol?

AMZN is the stock symbol for Amazon which is listed on the NASDAQ-GS exchange under the Consumer Services sector and Catalog/Specialty Distribution industry. You can use the AMZN ticker symbol to search for the company's trading page on your broker's platform or app in order to place a buy or sell position.

Amazon's Price History

Amazon's initial public offering (IPO) was in May 1997, and its common stock was traded on the Nasdaq Global Select Market. The price of Amazon has reportedly risen above $3,000 per share. Search for Amazon's trading ticker, AMZN, on a financial information website or through your online broker to get the most up-to-date stock price.

Since that time, from November 2013 till January 2017, average price per share has never exceeded $90, though it was during May 2015 ($94) and February 2016 ($98). Its stock price has also experienced some downward trends with the company's share price dropping from $38.73 to $19.06 from July 28, 2018 to October 18, 2018. The negative sentiment towards Amazon has been fueled by different factors such as: cyber-attacks and data breach scandals; GDPR law; and users' lack of faith in the company's ability to protect their data and information.

Amazon's Stock Split

Amazon's stock has split three times. On March 9, 2022, the company announced that its board of directors has approved a 20-for-1 stock split. If this will be approved by Amazon's shareholders in May, this will be its fourth stock split and will take effect on June 6, 2022.

What is a stock split?
A stock split impacts the price of a stock as well. The stock price will be reduced after a break (because the number of shares outstanding has increased). The share price will be in the case of a 2-for-1 split. The company's market value remains unaffected even though a stock split increases the number of outstanding shares and decreases the share price in proportion.

Why Amazon Stock is Down?

There are several factors which might affect Amazon's stock performance and could cause the company's share price to go down. There has been a noticeable shift from growth equities to value stocks, and Amazon doesn't fit the bill. In addition, Amazon's earnings for the second quarter of 2021 disappointed investors. Although the company's profits were higher than predicted, revenue growth was lower than expected by experts. It was the company's first revenue loss in three years. To make matters worse, its outlook for the third quarter of 2021 fell short of expectations. The market saw the weak projection as a warning that Amazon's strong growth rates in 2020 are slowly weakening. To be sure, the AMZN boom of 2020 is considered not sustainable. In the second half of 2021, the business referred to difficult year-over-year comparisons, pointing to the pandemic-driven high growth rates of 2020.

Amazon Stock Forecast

According to market watchers and analysts, it seems to have several obstacles to lessen throughout the year after a dull 2021 for AMZN stock. Given the forecast for significant growth and margin expansion in 2023-2025 which follows a huge infrastructure investment cycle, Amazon is known as one of the 2022 FANG stocks.

A lot are also optimistic about Amazon. After all, it remains to be the market leader in cloud computing, which is still in its early phases. The company will also benefit from last year's extensive investments in fulfillment centers. In addition to its cloud computing sector, analysts anticipate revenue growth to accelerate advertising and third-party sales.
